Transcript Types

The type of transcript required will depend on the function of the transcript. Certain details that are useful, for example in qualitative research analysis, will not be required in the transcript of a business meeting. Below is a list of the transcript levels offered by Etranscript. You may select one of the three levels of transcripts or a combination of features from the different levels. You will need to provide instructions on the level of detail that you require for your transcripts.

A. Level 1
B. Level 2
C. Level 3
D. Time-Stamped Transcripts
E. Combination of levels of transcripts

A.  Level 1

All um's, aah's, oh's are included . All false sentence starts are transcribed verbatim; as well as all superfluous repeated phrases and words e.g. "you know". (Where necessary the transcriptionist can indicate "chuckling"; "crying"'; "shouting"; etc.)
Level 1 transcripts are usually used for therapy sessions; psychology or sociology research; and journalists' interviews.

B.  Level 2

The transcriber uses his/her discretion to omit irrelevant words and improve grammar. Um's; aah's; mm-hm's; as well as repetitive phrases such as "you know", are excluded. False sentence starts are omitted unless these bring context to the sentence that follows.
Level 2 transcripts are used for general transcripts; most research interviews and meetings.

C.  Level 3

Umm's; aah's; irrelevant and repetitive phrases are excluded. The final document is a grammatically sound document.
Level 3 transcripts are used in the production of dictated reports, correspondence, etc.

D.  Time-Stamped Transcripts

Time-stamped transcripts are sometimes required for analysis purposes.

E.  Combination of levels of transcripts

You can select any of these levels for your transcript or you may choose any combination of these to suit your requirements.
